Governor Kathy Hochul signs landmark legislation requiring every New York college and university to appoint a Title VI Coordinator
The Greater New York Chamber stands with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation on August 26th, 2025 that requires all colleges in the state to designate anti-discrimination coordinators to enforce Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination in federally funded programs based on race, color and national origin. The bill was introduced, amid an uptick in antisemitism on college campuses in the aftermath of Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attacks. This bipartisan legislation is a meaningful tool to make our campuses places where students can learn without fear of discrimination.
