September 2008

Mark Jaffe, President of GNYCC with Deputy Secretary of Defense, Gordon England
September 12th, 2008- Luncheon with Deputy Secretary of Defense, Gordon England and Mrs. Dotty England was held at the New York Athletic Club 59th Street & 7th Avenue (Presidents Room) - We helped honor the host Deputy Secretary of Defense, Gordon England during his brief visit to New York with Mrs. England. He had recently returned from visits to the U.S. Submarine Forces in the Pacific, our troops in the Middle East, and had been with the President the previous day to dedicate the new Pentagon 9/11 Memorial. The following week he will be preparing to visit NATO partners in Europe  Mr. England provided an update on the War on Terror and reviewed the progress of the building of USS NEW YORK since he came to the City 6 years ago to announce the name of the ship. Mrs. Dotty England, the sponsor of USS NEW YORK, participated in the ceremonial pouring of steel from the World Trade Center into the ship's hull, and the ship's christening ceremonies in New Orleans in the Spring of this year.
