Chamber Hosts Governor Cuomo Press Conference

On May 29th, the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce hosted Governor Cuomo's Press Conference in on the launch of a consumer awareness campaign to further protect nail salon workers and educate consumers that patronize the industry. The event was held in the General Society Library in Midtown and was well attended by politicians, state agencies leaders, city representatives and members of the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce.

Governor Cuomo asked New Yorkers to not use businesses that are not licensed and/or are abusing their workers, "We are asking New Yorkers to help, and we are asking New Yorkers to get involved."

Speakers included Ron Kim: New York State Assembly Member of District 40 (Queens), Letitia James: NYC Public Advocate and Cesar A. Perales: New York Secretary of State; all key players and advocates in the Nail Salon Safety Campaign.

The Consumer Awareness Campaign includes a new website, social media campaign, the distribution of pocket cards that lists "Top Five Things to Ask When Entering Nail Salons" and a Nail Salon Worker Bill of Rights that is to be posted in every Nail Salon in New York. The campaign also includes a workforce development and training component for Nail Salon Workers.
