September 2014

Gale Brewer Proclaims 9.18 Greater NY Chamber Appreciation Day in Manhattan
On Sept 18th, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer was on hand to help acknowledge the official launch of the .NYC domain era . The .NYC Founder's Breakfast was held at the Greater NY Chamber's 10,000 Small Businesses Resource Fair at the NY Hilton Midtown. She declared that this was the first of many .NYC promotions that will be happening and declared it Greater NY Chamber Appreciation Day. She recognized the Chamber's leadership on many important civic & economic development efforts. Mark Jaffe accepted the honor and thanked the Borough President for her visionary work in broadband advocacy when she was first chairing the NYC Council technology committee.

The Breakfast opened with Lori Anne Wardi of .NYC who will be working with the Chamber to help all New Yorkers acquire their own .NYC Domain name. Ms. Wardi introduced over a dozen Founders who were on hand including visionary business & civic leaders like the 125th Street BID, PACE University and the Schubert Theater. Others committing to getting their.NYC were the New York RX Card and the United War Veterans Council (who want to use their new domain to promote their 11/11NYC Veteran's Parade)

After the Ribbon cutting; we heard some encouraging remarks from the NYS Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli who painted a bright picture of our economy which is reflected in his stewardship of the State's 180 billion dollar pension fund of which he is the sole trustee.

During the day; there were several educational forums including: Helping to Navigate the Regulations & Requirements for Payroll, Worker's Comp and Disability, presented by United Services Administration; a remarkable presentation on the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program and a special Business Services Q & A hosted by the NYC Department of Small Business Services , the United States Small Business Administration, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and TransitChek's Wage Works Commuter Benefit Program.

During the exhibitors lunch, we heard from Paisly Demby of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program and Dan Neuberger of Transit Chek . It was noted that both these programs are fantastic and successful and could only help the hundreds of exhibitors and attendees.

Finally, Mark Jaffe & Francesco Ciccone of New York RX Card identified civic and educational programs that the Chamber Foundation believes are doing important work, including; the American Diabetes Association, Derek Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation , Dr Oz's HealthCorps, Peace Outside Campus , Faison Firehouse Theatre , Rochester Ballet and the United War Veteran's Council, (who will once again be running the NYC Veteran's Day Parade on November 11th).

Upcoming Business Resource Fairs have been scheduled for November 5th in Long Island and September 16th in Manhattan.

CEO Jaffe thanks NYS Comptroller Tom DiNapoli for his stewardship of NY's Pension Fund
